Belayet: DU admission examinee at age 55

Belayet

“Man is as big as his dream”, Belayet Sheikh is the pure reflection of this quote.

This 55- year-old man is going to meet his dream by taking part in the admission test of Dhaka University on upcoming June 11, this year.

Belayet Sheikh, a resident of Gazipur, always dreamt of being a student of DU.

But poverty resisted him to do so.

And now the father of three is taking the brave step to fulfil his lifelong dream.

Belayet wanted to fulfil his dream with his siblings and sons but they failed to do that and that remorse compelled him to make this bold decision.

For continuing the studies at this age, the journey was not easy for Belayet.

He has to face mocking from relatives and neighbours.

Morever Belayet had faced various obstacles throughout his academic life.

Belayet was preparing for his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in 1983, his father got ill.

As a responsible son he had to spend all of his savings for his father’s treatment which he intended to use for SSC admission form.

After five years, in 1988, he again prepared for the exam, but countrywide devastating flood became the irony of his fate.

At the age of 52, he passed SSC with a GPA of 4.43, and Higher Secondary (HSC) with a GPA of 4.58 and that good grades encouraged him to apply in DU admission test.

More interestingly, his younger child also appeared HSC this year and the father-son duo excelled the examination this year.

Belayet currently works as a local correspondent for The Daily Karatoa and he wants to study mass communication and journalism.

With faith in Allah, full of dreams and courage Belayet Sheikh has asked for the blessings from everyone through facebook.
