Tammat Bil Khoar: How a Young Cyclist is Redefining Bangladesh’s Spirit of Adventure

When you think of heroes, you might picture someone sprinting across a stadium or scoring a last-minute goal. But sometimes, heroes come quietly — with nothing but a bicycle, a dream, and an endless road ahead.

Meet Tammat Bil Khoar, a young cyclist from Bangladesh who is redefining what it means to chase dreams. From cycling across the length of Bangladesh to reaching the chilling heights of Everest Base Camp, Tammat is proving that even the wildest ambitions can be conquered one pedal at a time.

In a country where cycling is still finding its place among mainstream sports, Tammat stands out as a fearless trailblazer. His journey isn’t just about endurance; it’s about heart, hope, and the courage to dream beyond boundaries.

Let’s dive into the extraordinary story of Bangladesh’s new hero on wheels — a story that is already inspiring a nation.

A Dream Born from a TV Show

Growing up near nature in the Chattogram Police Line, Tammat Bill Khoar’s love for adventure started early. One day, as a young boy, he saw an episode of the famous TV show Ityadi. It featured an elderly man who had traveled all over Bangladesh on a bicycle.

That single moment left a permanent mark on young Tammat’s heart.
“I don’t remember everything but seeing that inspired me. I wanted to cycle across Bangladesh one day too,” he recalled.

However, not everyone around him shared his excitement. His parents worried that he was neglecting his studies for a “hobby.” No one in his family had a sports background. They feared he was wasting valuable years. But dreams have a way of finding their path. Tammat secretly saved money from tutoring jobs and finally bought his first bicycle.

A Secret Escape and the First Big Ride

In 2017, while studying at university, Tammat decided to take a leap of faith. Without telling his parents, he packed his bags, grabbed his bicycle, and left home quietly in the middle of the night.

“That night was the turning point of my life,” he said.
“If I hadn’t left, I probably wouldn’t have entered this community.”

Thus began his first major expedition: cycling across all 64 districts of Bangladesh. Targeting the Circuit Houses of each district, he started from Chattogram.
In just 25 days, he completed the journey — beating the previous record of 29 days set by two other cyclists.

This achievement turned Tammat into a rising star among adventure enthusiasts in Bangladesh.

Conquering the Everest Base Camp

In November 2024, Tammat achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Bangladeshi to reach the Everest Base Camp on a bicycle. This journey was not easy at all. It took him 23 days to complete it. He had to ride his bike through dangerous paths, rocky roads, and freezing temperatures. At one point, he even reached a height of 5,300 meters above sea level.

The cold, the lack of oxygen, the heavy climbs — nothing could stop him. Battling physical exhaustion and harsh weather conditions, Tammat’s journey was a testament to his unwavering determination and spirit.

Tammat documented his journey through a series of YouTube videos, providing insights into the challenges faced during the expedition. These videos offer a firsthand look at the rugged terrains, the unpredictable weather, and the sheer determination required to undertake such a feat.

Records and Adventures: More Than Just Everest

Tammat’s adventures didn’t start or end with Everest. He has already created many records that made Bangladesh proud. Here are some of his amazing achievements:

  • He cycled across all 64 districts of Bangladesh.
  • He cycled across Nepal’s East-West Highway, a long and difficult route through mountains and valleys.
  • He cycled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in India, covering the entire country from top to bottom.
  • He even walked the longest distance in Bangladesh — from Teknaf to Tetulia — a journey that covered nearly the entire length of the country.

Through these journeys, Tammat explored every corner of Bangladesh and even parts of South Asia. He met people from different cultures, saw beautiful landscapes, and faced all kinds of weather.

Each trip made him stronger, wiser, and more connected to the world around him.

Chasing Dreams Against All Odds

Despite his growing fame, Tammat’s family continued to worry. In Bangladesh, building a career through sports adventure is not easy. There are few success stories to point to.

“In Bangladesh’s context, thinking of sports adventure as a career is very tough,” Tammat shared.
“Families don’t usually support it, not because they don’t care, but because of insecurity.”

He had a chance to participate in the Asian Championship in 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to postpone his international dreams.

But nothing could slow him down for long.

Becoming a Sports Content Creator

In 2022, just before the FIFA World Cup, Tammat started creating regular sports-related content on social media. He didn’t just want to cycle; he wanted to share stories that could motivate others.

Tammat planned to cycle from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in India — a 4,000-kilometer journey.
Unfortunately, his visa was rejected. Instead, he quickly pivoted to another plan: cycling across Nepal’s East-West Highway, completing the thousand-kilometer route in 9 days.
This achievement made him the first Bangladeshi to do so. Later, he successfully completed the Kashmir to Kanyakumari ride too — finally conquering his 4,000-kilometer dream.

He documented both his Nepal and India journeys through video blogs, growing his identity as a sports content creator. His videos now spread positive messages like not wasting food, encouraging walking, and promoting cycling culture in Bangladesh.

A Special Journey for Lionel Messi

Tammat is not just an adventurer — he is also a huge football fan.And like many people around the world, his favorite player is Lionel Messi. In December 2022, Tammat did something very special for Messi.

He cycled 1,003 kilometers across Bangladesh. This number was not random — it matched the number of professional matches Messi had played at that time! Tammat started his journey from Shahpori Island in Teknaf and ended at Banglabandha Zero Point in Panchagarh.
Along the way, he met many Messi fans who cheered him on and offered him food and shelter.

This cycling trip made headlines not just in Bangladesh but also in Argentina. Argentine media even praised his love and dedication towards their football hero. Through this ride, Tammat showed that sports can connect people across the world, no matter how far apart they live.

Success in Competitions

  • Loneliness: Many times, he had to travel alone with no one to support him on dangerous routes.
