Bangladeshi Scientist Saidur Rahman Ranks Among World’s Top Researchers Again in 2026
Bangladesh’s presence in global science has once again been strengthened as renowned Bangladeshi-origin scientist Professor Dr. Saidur Rahman secured a place among the world’s leading researchers in the AD Scientific Index 2026 rankings.
According to the newly released index, Professor Rahman achieved an outstanding position in Mechanical Engineering, ranking first in Malaysia, second in Asia, and seventh worldwide. The ranking evaluated 33,371 scientists globally in the Engineering and Technology or Mechanical Engineering category, placing him among the most influential researchers in his field.
Notably, this is not his first appearance at the top. Professor Rahman also held the seventh global position in 2025, underscoring his consistent research excellence and long-term academic impact.
His global recognition extends beyond the AD Scientific Index. In ScholarGPS 2025, he was ranked number one in the world for research in sustainable and renewable energy. Additionally, a joint analysis by Stanford University and Elsevier listed him among the world’s top two percent of scientists, where he also ranked first among Malaysian researchers in energy-related studies.
Professor Rahman currently serves as a faculty member at Sunway University, where he has received awards for excellence in entrepreneurship, innovation, and teaching. In 2025, he was honored with the prestigious OBADA Award in the “Distinguished Scientist” category, an international recognition awarded to only eight scientists worldwide that year.
His research influence is reflected in citation metrics as well. Data from Google Scholar shows that he holds an h-index of 145, with more than 86,000 citations. Originally from Mymensingh, he is an alumnus of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Between 2014 and 2021, Clarivate Analytics recognized him as one of the world’s top one percent researchers. His work has also earned leading positions in MXene-based nanomaterials and nanofluid research, based on analyses from Scopus and Web of Science.
Beyond research, Professor Rahman actively mentors young scientists, sharing his 28 years of experience through online seminars, social platforms, and a YouTube channel. He has also personally invested over USD 1.5 million to establish a state-of-the-art research laboratory at Sunway University, focusing on energy technology, advanced materials, energy storage, solar power, and clean water development.
In recognition of his contribution to national economic development, the Government of Bangladesh awarded him the Commercially Important Person (CIP) honor in December 2022.
Reflecting on the achievement, Professor Rahman emphasized that the success represents collective efforts by students, research teams, institutions, and funding partners, rather than individual accomplishment alone.
