Bangladesh is set to formally bring its fast-growing freelancing community under a national framework with the launch of the country’s first freelancer registration and ID management platform, freelancers.gov.bd, on Tuesday. The initiative marks a major step toward recognizing freelancers as an organized workforce and strengthening the digital economy.
A press release from the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology confirmed that the platform has successfully completed Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT), ensuring strong security and technical readiness ahead of its launch.
Developed by the Information and Communication Technology Division in partnership with the Department of ICT, the platform will allow freelancers to obtain a government-recognized digital Freelancer ID Card for the first time.
Officials say the ID card will simplify access to banking services, loans, credit facilities, financial incentives, and both government and private training programs. It is also expected to enhance professional credibility for Bangladeshi freelancers in local and international markets.
In addition, freelancers.gov.bd will function as a national freelancer database, maintaining updated information on workforce size, skills, work categories, and market trends. This data will support future policy planning and decision-making by relevant authorities.
The initiative is widely viewed as a strategic move to promote youth self-employment, expand technology-driven job opportunities, and increase foreign currency earnings. With this step, Bangladesh advances toward a safer, more transparent, and institutionalized freelancing ecosystem.
