A tale of home-coming during Eid

The ache for home lives in all of us. That’s the reason we always try to celebrate festivals with our family’s at home. Eid-ul-fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslim is almost here. Due to corona pandemic people have not been able to celebrate Eid with their dear one’s for last two years. That’s the reason people will go home this year as there is no outbreak of corona this year. But the question is can everyone going to make it?

A Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) research found that an averge of 3 million people leave Dhaka for their villages every day during Eid-ul-fitr. It also says that the country’s transport system has the capacity to transport about 1.8 million passengers per day. Of these, 6 lakh will be able to travel by bus, 1 lakh by train, 1 lakh 25 thousand by launch, 3 lakh by motorcycle and 3 lakh by private car. But 14 lakh passengers will not get any transport to travel. As a result, they will go for ‘alternative way’.

The pressure of going home of people is increasing day by day. Advance ticket sales have already started, which results in a long line at the train counter every morning. People are suffering at the train station because of buying tickets in online. The preparation of the railway authorities for the Eid journey is questionable.

During the Eid procession, there is always some major problems like long traffic congestion, mismanagement of Administration, dilapidated roads, black ticket market, uncontrolled fare hikes, looting and extortions, road and waterways accidents etc that cause sufferings to the general people. Road, rails and waterways are always suffering to everywhere before Eid.

Ticket prices are increased on almost all transport and Extra fare is charged from the passengers.

Apart from that people will be shocked to know that a total of 331 people were killed and 622 people get injured in road rail and waterways accidents almost all year. But how long the people of this country have to make this effort to reach their family’s by crowding the roads and waterways at the risk of their lives?

Maybe time will tell that. But for now, there is no effective steps taken by administration to speak for.

Last but not the least, it is said that, the passion, love and tension of the Bangladeshis are more than any other nations. That’s why the people take risk of their live and try their best to celebrate with their dear one’s. People believe that if you know, you are going home, the journey is never too hard. Maybe the best part of going away from home is coming back to home again.

May the joy of Eid does not turn into sadness for anyone. May the joy of Eid be for everyone.
